The Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS) is a government initiative launched in 2024 with the goal of providing internships to 10 million young people over the next five years.

The scheme aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical industry experience by placing interns in top Indian companies for 12-month internships.  

Key features of the PMIS:

  • Eligibility: Open to individuals who have completed high school, ITI, diploma, or graduation.  
  • Stipend: Interns receive a monthly stipend of Rs 45,00 to 5,000.  
  • Financial support: A one-time grant of Rs 6,000 is provided for incidental expenses, and comprehensive insurance coverage is included.  
  • Application process: Applications are made through the official portal: https://pminternship.mca.gov.in/
  • Participating companies: Over 500 top Indian companies are participating in the scheme.  

Important points to note:

  • The application deadline for the 2024 scheme has been extended to November 15, 2024.  
  • Over 1.5 lakh individuals have already registered for the scheme.  
  • The scheme is expected to cost around Rs 800 crore in its pilot phase.
